Hello Friends!
I am Michael Moberly, Project Manager and general know it all over here at Gravallese Co.. On top of helping out the team here, I also have been a spirits educator for the past decade, working the dozens of brands and bars over the years. Because Gravallese Co. products take their scent inspiration from cocktails I thought why not teach y'all how to make one of the cocktails that inspired a product: The Old Fashioned.
Now an Old Fashioned is a lot of things to a lot of different people, however there are general rules on what you must use: something strong, something bitter, and something sweet. Cocktails, like all things in life, must have balance and these three ideas keep the Old Fashioned in check.
Choosing different base spirits can be a blast, from the classic bourbon to mezcal, there are lots of ways to make an Old Fashioned your own. Same goes for what to use to sweeten up the drink, I love maple syrup in my Old Fashioned, or sometimes sorghum. Bitters can be intimidating but you can never go wrong with the classic Angostura.
Here is the base line recipe for an Old Fashioned, be sure to make your own at home and add your own twist:
2oz Bourbon
.5oz Simple Syrup
3 Dashes Bitters
Combine all ingredients and stir with ice. Strain over ice and garnish with orange peel.
Cheers!!
